September 1, 2010, Knoxville, Tennessee – On August 25, 2010, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), Maritime Division, Columbus, OH, announced an award to Aqua-Chem, Inc.(Aqua-Chem) under the H2O Water Purification Initiative (WPS), a five-year program with a not-to-exceed value of $386,000,000. Under this contract, (SPM7MX-10-D-9007) Aqua-Chem, working in partnership with key suppliers and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), will be responsible for warehousing, storage, logistical and supply chain management of materials to support the Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit 600GPH, (ROWPU 600), the Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit 3,000GPH (ROWPU 3,000), the Lightweight Water Purification (LWP) system and the Tactical Water Purifications System (TWPS). These weapon systems are used worldwide in remote locations to provide fresh drinking water to the war-fighter and to support disaster relief efforts.
“We are committed to ensuring that the war-fighter is always equipped with the right spares, at the right time, anywhere in the world,” said David Gensterblum, Aqua-Chem’s President and CEO. “We are prepared to execute this contract, and are capable of increasing this model exponentially for increased volumes in the near future.”
In the 1980’s and early 1990’s, Aqua-Chem developed, designed and manufactured the first ROWPU 3000 systems with deliveries to TACOM (Tank-automotive & Armaments Command) in Warren, MI. In the 2000’s, Aqua-Chem, with a teaming partner, developed and is a primary subcontractor for the TWPS program which is still in production today and being delivered to TACOM. Prior to receiving this award, Aqua-Chem provided support for all four systems covered by the WPS.
“This latest contract awarded to Aqua-Chem proves the company’s dedication and leadership in the water purification industry,” said Gregory L. Greenberg, Senior Partner of Altus Capital Partners, the largest outside investor in Aqua-Chem.
The program’s responsibility and execution will be performed out of the corporate headquarters in Knoxville, TN.
